KYLE
McCLOSKEY

VIDEOGRAPHER & EDITOR

About Kyle

Born in America and raised around the world, Kyle McCloskey has spent his life using film as a means for powerful and intimate storytelling, whether fictional or documentary. While attending Haverford College for his undergraduate degree, he wrote and directed an H.P. Lovecraft-inspired silent horror film that was accepted to international film festivals, garnering him his first IMDb credit.

In the time since, he has worked primarily as a bilingual Tokyo-based videographer, editor, and digital imaging technician/data loader. His work has ranged from big budget Hollywood films to PR videos for small businesses and entrepreneurial individuals looking to make their mark in Japan. He has coached Japanese documentary directors for English language fundraising pitches, written grants for international producers, edited short films and music videos, sourced archival photos and video, and even directed and shot the pilot episode of an NHK World documentary series.

At present, he is developing a Japanese language short film and an American-based short documentary series.

Testimonials

I’ve worked with Kyle on multiple projects – including video editing for the Speak Like An Expert Online course and audio editing for special editions of the Sasuga! Podcast.
Kyle knows his stuff and quickly added the special effects that I was looking for. He’s also an absolute pleasure to communicate with – always cheery and looking for solutions.
And he works fast and sets realistic deadlines.
If you’re looking for video or audio editing or to consult with an expert in this area, I wholeheartedly recommend Kyle.

Kyle is brilliant. He’s a great videographer and creative collaborator.
About 5 years ago I had this idea – I wanted to interview people and have conversations with them and video it and put it online. Another friend suggested that I put an iPhone on a tripod and go for it. But that was not what I wanted to do. So Kyle and I started talking about it. Fast forward 3 years and finally I was ready. We booked our first guest, talked and created and got excited and taped our first interview. The quality was fantastic and we both learned a lot on that shoot. Sounds, preparation and Kyle got an idea about splicing and editing and including clips of the interviewees daily lives. Next round we had mics, lights and amazing editing. Kyle was a partner in this project- the videos were so professional; he delivered on time and I just loved doing the project. The end products were always sleek; well thought-out, well-put together and told the story so beautifully with just the right amount of emotion. I completely trusted his judgement and creative direction and I was right. We collaborated on what should be kept in and what moved us and we truly cared about the people we shot. The best bit is the conversations we have about creativity, psychology and making things. Kyle is professional, technically skilled reliable, creative and bloody good conversation.

Kyle was a wonderful presence at our first live performance in years.

I’m very grateful for the exceptional work Kyle McCloskey did filming my recent cello recital with pianist, Simon Beston, in Tokyo. From the first moments of the set-up and sound check pre-performance, Kyle’s experience of knowing how to capture sound and at the same time create a beautiful visual presentation was invaluable. His passion for music, intuition, and sensitivity made us comfortable before and throughout the performance. The video of the concert came out beautifully, and we are very happy to be able to use the footage to share the concert with audience members and for promoting our group for future bookings. I greatly appreciate Kyle’s expertise mixing and editing the footage, and it is remarkable he had finished editing the project about a week after the performance.
This was my first live duo concert after a long absence because of raising children and then the pandemic, and it was a very special moment to be playing music for an audience again. I will be calling Kyle again as soon as possible for future concert videos because of his warmth, personal dedication and very precious knowledge of filming.
